Beijing Subway on 05 Dec 2022: No More PCR Tests, Stations Closed

The Beijing Subway will no longer check if you have a current PCR/NAT Covid-19 viral test with effect from 05 December 2022 local time. This also applies to city buses and the two tram lines (Western Suburban/Xijiao, Yizhuang Line 1).

The official announcement, however, was not phrased this way, instead informing the ridership that failure to present a 48-hour Covid test will not exclude you from travelling on these services.

On the same day, the stations of Babaoshan (八宝山), Wukesong (五棵松), and Yuquan Road/Yuquanlu (玉泉路) will close. The official announcement bases itself on a traffic police public notice informing of “special operations”. However, a day later, memorial services for the late Chinese president Jiang Zemin are planned, and although official announcements have not made reference to the latter, this may be a possible reason for the closure.
